Quality Artificial Turf!
Nylon Turf
Nylon & Nylon sand-filled synthetic turfs have "memory." The fibers are heat-set during the manufacturing process at 230 degrees and will resist becoming matted down by springing back to their original upright position. Our nylon synthetic turfs are much denser than our polypropylene sand-filled turfs. That is why our nylon products require zero to minimal amounts of sand-fill. Nylon is also a much stronger fiber than polypropylene and will resist fading and wear in all weather conditions. Our sand filled nylon products have been specifically designed as excellent all-purpose turfs. They give you the best of both worlds - excellent shot receiving and superb putting performance. Also, by adding a small amount of sand-fill to you putting green, you can increase the speed of your green. Nylon synthetic turf does not require maintenance after it is installed, unless you add sand during the installation. Whether you choose a sand-filled or non sand-filled nylon turf, the surface of your green can be cleared of debris easily, by either blowing or sweeping the surface.
Polypropylene Turf
Polypropylene is a form of plastic. All polypropylene turfs require some sand-fill to perform well. There are a couple of reasons why you need sand-fill in a polypropylene turf. The most important reason is because the fibers cannot stand upright on their own. Sand fill is also required to help prevent the fibers from becoming matted down. Adding sand-fill to a putting green will equate to periodic maintenance, despite claims to the contrary. Heavily sand-filled greens will become hard over time, and will require a little more maintenance to provide good performance. These sand-filled turf products require 4-12 pounds of sand per sq. ft., and must be brushed and re-filled with sand if the sand-fill becomes compacted or washed away. With the right sand-fill, polypropylene provides an excellent surface for receiving long approach shots. (The sand-fill helps disperse the energy of a ball when hit into a green from any significant distance.) Putting on a sand-filled turf does have a drawback however. You will experience a "grainy" effect when you putt on a sand-filled turf. This means that the ball will roll faster with the grain than against the grain. This effect will occur with most polypropylene products that you choose.
Most Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any contour limitations?
No. Since the shape of silica sand is ANGULAR it will lock in place after it is watered down. This, and the weight of the silica sand anchors the turf firmly in place, permitting the contour to be sloped at any angle. Many of our customers construct their greens in two tiers or with rolling undulations.
How does water drain off the green?
Water drains directly off the top.
Can snow, ice, wind, or intense heat harm the green?
Synthetic Greens have been installed in the Arizona deserts and high in the Rocky Mountains -- The resilient UV-resistant polypropylene fibers will withstand the effects of rain, snow, ice and intense sun.
Will a Synthetic Green wear out?
Since most of the wear is on the sand, these greens will last virtually forever. Synthetic Green turf comes with an 8-year warranty, the best in the industry.
Can a Synthetic Green be installed indoors?
Yes. However, with our sand filled greens a minimal amount of top dressing sand will track outside the green area. We also offer a different type of turf (non-sand filled) called Patio Turf. Basically it is a glorified astro-turf. It is very durable and the fibers are curled over. This is not available at any carpet or building supply store.
Can a sand trap be placed next to a Synthetic Green?
Yes. We recommend you use Bunker Sand or Washed Masonry Sand which is available at your local Sand and Gravel Company. Bunker Sand can be easily brushed off the green. Sand Trap installation instructions are included in the written instructions provided in every Synthetic Green kit.
Can a Synthetic Green absorb a long ball bounce?
Our unique fiber density and top dressing give the Synthetic Green putting green the ability to hold shots from any distance. A different blend of silica sand is required for long ball greens. We have many 9 and 18 hole golf courses installed though out the country that employ this technology.
What is the Stimp Speed of a Synthetic Green Golf Green?
The average stimp speed is 8 or 9 but can be adjusted up to a 12. See Stimp Speed.
Can a Synthetic Green be installed near my other landscaping?
Yes. If there is a tree in your yard you want to incorporate in your green make sure the tree is deep rooted. The roots of a shallow rooted tree will rise to the surface, causing swells and bumps on the golf green surface.
How is debris, such as branches and leaves, removed from the green?
A Lawn/Leaf Blower is the quickest way to remove debris. You can also lightly sweep debris off the surface with the included push broom.
